    Richard Maxwell(Author) Johanna Sharples(Author)
These problems usually stem from the owner's daily treatment of the horse, and therefore can be modified through learning a new approach to horse handling and training. In this way, anyone can form a mutually rewarding bond with a horse of any age and at any stage of its training. Richard Maxwell continues the ideas from his successful Understanding Your Horse and From Birth to Backing books by developing a simple, structured approach which comprises three steps and can take as little as twenty minutes a day. From handling and training the horse from the ground, and training from the saddle, From Ground to Saddle covers exactly that, as well as containing detailed advice and practical exercieses for continuing the training from the saddle with eight case studies.

This book is a must for anyone wishing to explore a more harmonious relationship with their horse..... -- Classical Riding Club, August 2003This book really was one of the most comprehensive 'talk horse' instruction manuals I've ever excellent book. -- Rider, May 2003

I love this book! Mr Maxwell has a fantastic style of writing which is so easy to follow and really gets you thinking about the way that we are training our horses. This book is fantastic. Its got 3 main chapters, one detailing groundwork which helps the horses balance and helps to form a bond between the two of you. The second chapter progresses to 'distance work'. It gives a very good description of long-lining and the processes associated with it. The third is ridden work where you bring everything together. Other chapters cover problems you may encounter and how to correct them and a bit about horse behaviour. All of the exercises are accompanied by step-by-step pictures which really helps visualise what you are ment to be doing. It has loads of pictures of the wonderful Pelo also. He was a truely magnificant horse.

I bought this book when I was on the verge of selling my horse due to his tricky behaviour. This book is easy to follow and understand. The exercises are easy to replicate in the school. Everyone who owns or rides a horse should read this book. After 2 days of following the instructions in this book I could see the difference. Instead of being overwhelmed with the amount of work my horse needs to make him safe, I look forward to spending time with him. It has given me loads of much needed confidence.
